81-year-old woman discovers her 103-year-old mother after 61-year search

81-year-old woman discovers her 103-year-old mother after 61-year search

An 81-year-old woman has discover that her 103-year-old mother is still alive after she had spent 61 years trying to find her.
Born in the Bethany Home and moved to Kirwan House at age two, Eileen Macken was given someone else’s birth certificate at 16 and lived under that identity for 60 years, Yahoo Style UK has reported.
She found out, after DNA, that the family she thought was hers was not.
Mrs. Macken first started trying to find her biological mother when she was 19, but was beginning to lose all hope of finding her after searching for more than six decades.
But with the help of a genealogist who offered to assist when she opened up about her story on a radio show last year, Mrs. Macken was able to track down her elderly mum earlier this month.
“I spoke to her on the phone but she couldn’t hear me,” she said. “She’s a bit like myself, I’ve only one good ear. “She kept saying, “I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you.

“All I want is to see her.”
Mrs. Macken also found out she had two half-brothers who were still alive and were in their 70s.
Speaking about how the years of searching had affected her, Mrs. Macken continued: “The sadness that goes with being alone, even to this day, different things would set me off, I’d say, ‘if only I had a brother, if only I had a sister.’
“I think it’s just within you that you have no blood relatives. But I have now.”

Senate To Reconvene Tuesday, Debate Onnoghen’s Suspension

Senate To Reconvene Tuesday, Debate Onnoghen’s Suspension

A source in the National Assembly disclosed that the lawmakers would reconvene to discuss the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The source also confirmed that the National Assembly would hold a leadership meeting on Sunday over the matter.

The Lawmakers had during Thursday’s plenary adjourned sitting until February 19, after the Presidential and National Assembly election.

But the decision to reconvene next week followed the suspension of Justice Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.

The President had thereafter appointed and sworn in Justice Tanko Mohammed as acting CJN

He explained that decision to suspend Justice Onnoghen was at the request of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations that he failed to declare his assets.

The suspension sparked mixed reactions from individuals and groups within and outside the country.

One of those who criticised the President was the Peoples Democratic People (PDP) which called in the National Assembly to take legislative actions against him.

Senate President Bukola Saraki also described Justice Onnoghen’s suspension as a “coup against democracy" saying the President’s action was an over-reach of the powers in the Executive arm of government.

But the Presidency insisted that there was no political undertone in the suspension of the judge, stressing that it was purely about fighting corruption.

On his part, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor Itse Sagay, stated that the right thing to do was for any self-respecting judge accused of breaching the constitution to step down until such case was cleared.

Meanwhile, the European Union has raised concern with Justice Onnoghen’s suspension and questioned the process and timing of the decision to suspend him.

Similarly, the United States government said the decision had weakened the determination the government and political parties among others to ensure a process that would lead to credible elections in the country.

NBA Rejects Onnoghen’s Suspension, Accuses Executive Of Attempted Coup Against Judiciary

NBA Rejects Onnoghen’s Suspension, Accuses Executive Of Attempted Coup Against Judiciary

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (NBA).
The association rejected Justice Onnoghen’s suspension in statement personally signed by its National President, Mr Paul Usoro.
It alleged that the action of President Muhammadu Buhari was an attempted coup against the judiciary and suspension of the Nigerian Constitution by the Executive.
The NBA added that the action of the Executive depicted a slide into anarchy and complete deconstruction of the rule of law and due process.

According to the association, President Buhari’s action amounts to an absolute breach of the Constitution and the usurpation of the powers of the Senate and the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Following the suspension of Justice Onnoghen, President Buhari had appointed and sworn in Justice Tanko Mohammed as acting CJN.

He said he took the decision at the request of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations that Justice Onnoghen failed to declare his assets.
The President’s action has sparked mixed reactions across the country, including a call on the National Assembly by the Peoples Democratic People (PDP) to take legislative actions against him.
But the Presidency had insisted that there was no political undertone in the suspension of Justice Onnoghen, saying it was purely about fighting corruption.
